New Gunvolt 2 Info From Portland Retro Gaming Expo

At Inti Creates' panel at the Portland Retro Gaming expo earlier today, Inti President Takuya Aizu showed off some new gameplay footage for Gunvolt 2, as well as a new boss and song. While we're still waiting on Inti to upload this footage online for the rest of the world, I've been doing some research and managed to dig up some additional details about the game. The primary source for this info comes from a Reddit thread that I uncovered, where the TC directed questions from the Reddit community to the Inti guys. One of my associates who was present at the panel, Ryan King, was also kind enough to contribute some info. Check it all out below!

  • The game is only planned to release on 3DS for the time being. If GV2 does come to Steam, it'll take some time due to team size.
  • More gameplay footage may be shown around summer of 2016 (very tentative, though).
  • Some playable version of the game also may be released in summer (also very tentative).
  • There will be more stage-mashup (Gauntlet) levels in Gunvolt 2.
  • The sequel will re-use pixel art assets from the first game. The resolution and graphics are also planned to be the same. The transition from GV1 to GV2 will reportedly be similar to the first and second Mega Man Zero games.
  • No word yet on whether Dullahan will be back.
  • The sequel will be around the same length as the first game: around 8-10 hours of gameplay.
  • There might be an actual, happy ending in GV2.
  • There will evidently be "something surprising" in the game's story.
  • The checkpoint markers in the trailer had Copen's emblem on them, according to user Shin Star on GameFAQs (whose sister pointed this out to him).
  • The gameplay in the trailer looks very much the same as the first game.

Inti also stated that the next update for the Steam version of Gunvolt will include an Extra Hard Mode and Endless Attack Mode, and system limitations were the reason for the lack of a GV English dub.

And that about wraps everything up! Personally, I'm really looking forward to hearing more, as well as finally watching that new PRGE Gunvolt 2 footage when it releases online! Thanks again to Ryan King and Shadowforks on Reddit for the info!

  1. I have few questions:Is the player character in footage Gunvolt or someone we don't know? And is the boss another giant robot or mysterious blonde guy who was show in concept months ago

    1. Just asked Ryan King about this. According to him, Gunvolt was still the main playable character. The stage that was shown off centered around an office building, and there was a gunship shooting at GV as he ran past a wall of windows. Ryan unfortunately can't remember what the boss looked like. He stated that if you showed him footage from GV1 and GV2, he wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between them, as they looked -that- similar to each other.
