Xiao Wu (VA: Chiaki Omigawa)
“Not like I’ll overlook those guys’ plotting!”
He’s a pretty straight-laced, serious guy. He’s usually quite calm and gentle, but because to his deep hatred Eden and their role in the invasion of his homeland, the subject can reveal a very emotional side of him that is not often seen.
Mytyl
“Welcome, Acura–kun. I feel fine today.”
Mytyl is Copen’s twin (younger) sister, who like her twin brother, does not possess any septimal powers. Due to her weak constitution, she spends her days living in a long-term medical care facility. She has been extremely frail since birth, and due to a surgery she had at a very young age, she lost her voice and now communicates with people via a tablet.
Likely do to her frail constitution and being long-term medical care, she is quite small in stature, which gives many people the impression that her and Copen were born many years apart, but they are in fact the same age. Copen does not speak to her at all about his battles.
Nori (VA: Ayumi Tsunematsu)
“I apologize for keeping you waiting, Acura–sama.”
“I apologize for keeping you waiting, Acura–sama.”
She’s a super cool and collected maid that works for Copen and Mytyl. She also acts as Copen’s operator when he goes out on missions. From housework to battle support she can handle it all with the greatest of ease. While most of the time she acts as a maid to Copen and Mytyl, sometimes she steps out of that role and into one that is more like a foster parent; a very strict foster parent.
Copen has enormous amounts of financial assets, which allows him to do technical research and enact his revenge, neither of which she objects to helping him do. As for her own personal assets, well, that is a mystery.
An interesting thing to note about the last two characters is that their names have been changed from the Japanese version. While Xiao Wu's name is the same, Nori is known as "Nowa" and Mytyl is known as "Michiru" in Japanese. Funny thing about the latter's name: a fan named Tavi on Twitter informed me that it apparently comes from a 1908 play called "The Blue Bird." In this play, a girl named Mytyl is one of the protagonists, and guess what? She has a twin brother (who happens to be the other protagonist), like the Mytyl in Gunvolt. Evidently, the play was also made into an anime later on.
I digress, though. Getting back on track, here are also a couple new dialogue screenshots from GV2 that various Japanese gaming news sites released. Credit to Zoram for the translations!
Inti Creates also released two relationship charts for the GV2 characters that have been revealed so far. The first chart is for Gunvolt's team, and the second is for Copen's. You can check those out below!
Gunvolt's Team
Pretty intriguing, huh? Really gives you a good idea how all these characters relate to one other! I particularly think that the interactions between Copen and his sister will be interesting to see in the game. Copen's always an extremely serious guy, and I think it'll be really neat to see his soft side come out around his sister! It'll also be fascinating to learn how Mytyl plays into his motives for fighting against Eden. Is it gonna be like a Joule-GV thing, where Copen is forced to protect Mytyle from the forces of an evil organization? Guess we just have to wait and see!

He gives out hints as an Operator.
"A prototype 10th Generation Plasma Legion…A self-autonomous tank developed by Sumeragi." |
Xiao is also familiar with info about the enemies.
"Acura–sama. That device that I have dropped there is relief supplies." |
Being the capable assistance that she is, Nowa sometimes sends relief supplies.
"Acura–sama, looks like you can exit through the window up ahead." |
She supports him during the mission with precise guidance.

One thing you might notice right off the bat here is that Ouka's name has been changed to "Quinn," which is rather surprising in light of the fact that Inti Creates initially introduced her as "Ouka" in the West. Intrigued by this change, I reached out to Inti's Matt Papa for clarification on the issue. He was kind enough to provide me with the following response:
Anyway, moving on to Copen's Team:
"When we released Ouka/Quinn's character profile months back, the English names of the new characters hadn't been finalized yet. That's why I just introduced her as the JP name, and later on I'd find a way to introduce her English name later."So there you have it: apparently, the name "Ouka" was never really set in stone from the get-go for the EN version. This essentially means that, of the five new GV2 characters that have been revealed so far, only one of them is keeping his original name in the English version: Xiao Wu.

The name Quinn means reason and counsel; I'd say that fits her pretty well.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I nearly did a spit-take when I read that Mytyl was Copen's "younger *twin* sister".
Looks like my nickname of "Not-Gino" for Xiao couldn't have been farther from the truth. While Gino was a laid-back, geeky big brother figure to GV, Xiao's a collected and serious person who GV views as a little brother. His name itself is Chinese ("Xiao" means "dawn").
And lastly:
Quinn -> Joule: "Like family."
Joule -> Quinn: "Jealous. Sees her as an intrusion."
I lol'd the first time I read this, and it still gives me a chuckle now.
Is "Wu" Xiao's last name, or is his full first name "Xiao Wu"?
ReplyDeleteWhy in the world would GV work with a Quill agent?
ReplyDeleteJust because of what Asimov did, doesn't mean Gunvolt completely cut ties with QUILL. It's likely that nobody knew of Asimov's plan.
DeleteIt's not like GV is enemies with Feather to begin with. He just quit to protect Cyan. That with Asimov was personal. And besides, Xiao has info on Eden which GV might need.
DeleteDoes anyone know Mytyl's original name?
ReplyDeleteThe original Japanese names are as follow:
DeleteMytyl -> Michiru
Lola -> RoRo
Nori -> Nowa
Quinn -> Ouka
Xiao Wu is the same in both versions.
it looks odd that in the dialogue screenshots with Gunvolt and Xiao Gunvolt is in his GV 1 look
ReplyDeleteI don't see him as the same as in GV1 on. The image is different and the sprite is different too.
Deletei think gunvolt gets his new look after the 1st level
