The Muses of Gunvolt 2 & Copen's New Abilities

So, as some of you may have noticed yesterday, Inti Creates released a bunch of new information about Gunvolt 2 via several Japanese game media outlets yesterday. The info mainly concerned Lumen and Copen's newly-revealed Muse, "RoRo" (the red fairy girl from the Gunvolt 2 poster). There's also some information on Copen's weapon copy system. I daresay that the English Inti Creates website plans to cover this news eventually, but I'm taking the liberty of posting the news anyway for those who want the earliest scoop. After all, I daresay that there are a lot of people out there itching to know more about these new characters and the Copen's play-style!

“Cyan” turns into a child-like form in “Gunvolt Claw”
(Note: This is essentially how the title of Gunvolt 2 comes out in Japanese)! Reveal of the new character “RoRo” and the new weapon system. 
Inti Creates has released game info on the Nintendo 3DS downloadable software “Azure Striker (Armed Blue) Gunvolt: Claw”.
“Azure Thunderclap: Claw” is the 2nd installment in the “Azure Thunderclap: Gunvolt” series, a 2D light-novel action game.
In this game, you control two main protagonists with different gameplay styles, “Gunvolt” and “Acura”, as they fight many battle against the Multinational Psychic Union “Eden”.
 

Aside from the game's official illustration [seen above], info on the new characters and the game system has been revealed.


Characters in the game:
“Cyan” (CV: Sakuragawa Megu)
A girl who has been reduced to pure soul, and who resides within GV. She originally was a 7th Wave (Sevens) Psychic, a human, but she’s been freed from the cage of her flesh. Her personality has become bolder than before.
Her 7th Wave (Sevens) is the “Cybernetic Singing Fairy (Cyber Diva)”. She can synchronize with GV by singing, and boost the power of his Ability. The Cyber Diva used to have a more adult form before, but due to a certain incident, she lost most of her power, so her appearance has become child-like now.

“Roro” (CV: Endou Yurika)
She’s an AI unit called a“Battle Pot” that has been developed by Acura to control multiple Bit weapons. She partly believes that she’s Acura’s guardian--probably because she was built to protect him. She’s a bit cheeky as well. 
There was a time when, as part of her AI breeding, she was the conversation partner of Acura’s sister. The “Acura–kun” wording that RoRo uses is copied from Acura’s sister. As a result of a certain incident in the game, she gains the ability to change into a “Cybernetic Singing Fairy”, similar to Cyan. 

Introducing the Battle Pot “RoRo” 

Is RoRo a useful Support Robot?
"The Flash Field can’t protect you from that Gatling!"
RoRo also gives Acura navigational support.
"Go! Hit him! Acura–kun!!"
Her manner of speech is influenced by Acura’s sister and she adds “kun” to Acura when she calls out to him.
"Heck. Who’s that? A pervert?"


She reacts like a human would from time to time. 
Auto-Guard with the “Flash Field”.

When RoRo’s energy is at the max, RoRo will automatically deploy a barrier called the "Flash Field", which can block missile-type attacks.

Attack using the EX Weapon “Mirror Ring” 
RoRo can replicate the defeated Bosses’ 7th Wave (Sevens) Attacks to turn them into EX Weapons, thus allowing you to use skills from bosses.
Since these attacks use the Battle Pods’ energy, you’ll be unable to employ the “Flash Field” for a while after you’ve attacked with an EX Weapon. 

 "Wide Circuits"

  
This skill normally consists of multiple lasers shot forward by the pods . It covers a wide radius. 
  
If you deploy the skill when an enemy is tagged, the lasers focus on the enemy and you can inflict a high level of damage.
Its effects will become far more powerful when used in a boss battle.

“Spark Stellar”
 
RoRo’s pods align in a formation and shoot thunder. This skill damages the enemies in front of you.

“Tail Bunker”
 

This skill shoots very powerful drills and attacks several times in a row.

  1. Hoping for Gunvolt to get himself a few extra skill tricks, at least, but Copen looks amazing.

    Also some interesting hints in there. And RoRo is a hilarious callback to the very beginning of the first game, lol ;3

  2. This is more related to your recent twitter discussion, but since I lack a twitter account I'll just post it here (that, and it's still very much related to this article).

    Anyways, I'm fine with name changes most of the time (Lola sounds decidedly more feminine, for instance; Autonomous Combat Pod also sounds more believable than simply "Battle Pod"). The things that bothered me about the first game's localization were (a) the cut dialogue and (b) the random changes that didn't add anything to it.

    Now, we know that they aren't cutting stage dialogue and the like this time around, so the "Acura/Copen-kun" to "Boss" feels all the more jarring, especially considering the work done on Japanese Voice Mode in the Steam release. Surely it's easier to stick closer to the original script than to spice things up? The fact that they were aware of the criticism to even make Japanese Voice Mode in the first place, and then re-assuring us about the localization of the 2nd game in your interview with Mr. Aizu, has me confused.

    Hopefully this is just a small thing and not reminiscent of the entire product; it would be shocking if we got something anywhere near as bad as the first one's localization, for reasons that I've already stated.

    1. Yeah, I totally feel the same way. I really didn't think that most of those name changes were justified in the English version of GV1 at all. If anything, they kinda served to make things more confusing. Now "Lola" and "Autonomous Combat Pod" aren't real deal-breakers for me either at the moment (even though I would have still preferred for them to stick with the original names), but I gotta say, the script change from "Acura-kun" to "Boss" is rather disturbing: not just because it gives off a different tone, but because it results in a deliberate script change. In the JP version, Lola gets her "Acura-kun" wording from Copen's sister, but in the EN version, that tidbit is being cut out to accommodate the "Boss" nickname (it would have been weird for Copen's own sister to call Copen "Boss" after all). Granted, it's not a huge issue, but it doesn't seem like the best harbinger of things to come. I'm just thinking like, "the game isn't even out yet and we're already seeing script changes?" Not very comforting. I can only hope that 8-4 will know where to draw the line with their "creative liberties."

The only realistic explanation I have is that either (a) the bit about Lola being used as a conversation partner for Copen's sister goes entirely unmentioned in the game and is just some pre-release fluff, or (b) there's an explanation for it as well (maybe Copen's sister mentioned that he's more distant and moody, acting more like her "boss" than her brother; after all, they are orphans).
      After Japanese Voice Mode, those are the two things that make the most sense.
