Dengeki Nintendo Character Profiles: Acura

Time for some more Acura info! Wow, Inti sure likes that guy a lot, don't they? There's probably more backstory info about him than any other character in Gunvolt, even GV himself! But hey, I'm certainly not complaining; Acura's a super neat character!

Again, many thanks to Zoram Selrof for the translation! If you wish to compare this EN translation to the original Japanese text from Dengeki Nintendo, see here:

Acura’s Profile

14 yars old. A genius in everything. He continues the research of his late father, a 7th Wave (Sevens) researcher. In some fields, he displays a marvelous technical ability that overcomes even that of Sumeragi.

The many pieces of equipment that he wears are developed by himself, and, despite being a normal human without a 7th Wave (Sevens), by using the equipment earned though his high technical ability and his studied battle sense, he has battling abilities that can match those of a moderate 7th Wave (Sevens) Psychic.

He normally is composed and tries to bring down the target after he’s carefully made the preliminary arrangements, yet, when faced with 7th Wave (Sevens) Psychics, he tends to go wild and thus often meets with failure.

He was born in a prominent family with influences in Japan, the Kamizono Family, yet Acura decided that he shouldn’t involve the family in his private grudge, and therefore doesn’t try to use his family’s influences.

But he’s placed his trust in the servant sent by the Kamizono Family, Nowa. It’d seem he’s receiving support from her in all types of situations.
Megantleon:

A strengthening jacket that, through mechanical support, notably increases Acura’s mobility and defense. Since it places a big burden on the body, long-term wear is impossible.
Aixgear:

A shield-shaped equipment developed by Acura to use pseudo 7th Wave (Sevens).

It transforms into a longbow-like shape when attacking. By changing the cartridges, it can use abilities that recreate all types of 7th Wave (Sevens), yet their performances are lower than the original abilities.

This “7th Wave (Sevens) that anyone can use” is something that, even in the modern world, only Acura has managed to achieve: a revolutionary invention, yet Acura, who doesn’t trust others, has no intention of disclosing the technological info. It was greatly damaged during Acura's fight with Asimov.
Border:

A Demon-bane revolver that is also a memento of Acura’s father. It was snatched by Asimov. Since it was employed in a very reckless manner, it’s now impaired.
Beowulf:

Silver bullets shot from the Border. They have a special constitution and structure and, despite being physical bullets, they can break through GV’s Thunder Scales.
Acura possesses several bullets like these and he uses one type or another depending on the opponent he fights.
Greed Snatcher:

It’s an Anti Psychic Purpose Special Bullet copying Carrera’s 7th Wave (Sevens). Its power is greatly inferior compared to the “Super Heavy Magnetic Exploding Star” that Carrera himself employs, but the maneuverability has been greatly improved.

This is a result of Acura’s improvements, but it also should be noted that Carrera himself wasn’t able to properly use his own 7th Wave (Sevens).

The fact that the Greed Snatcher isn’t used through the shield, but through the gun, may be a display of some form of sentimentalism for Acura: to use the trump card against Psychics through his father’s memento.
Lust Doppler:
An SP Skill based on the “Mirage Cross” that Panthera uses. It’d seem that Acura was unable to recreate Panthera’s original SP Skill “Phantasmagoria”.
Acura’s father

He was a researcher on duty at Sumeragi’s Future Tech Lab, and he was the one who built the foundations of the current 7th Wave (Sevens) research.

He had his misgivings about the Psychics’ danger more than anyone else, but he died in the accident that Asimov, then a prisoner of Sumeragi, triggered.

Since the accident was concealed by the Sumeragi top brass, Acura thinks that it was the top brass, who didn’t pay attention to his father’s complains, who killed him.
The Kamizono Family:

A Demon-repelling tribe that’s existed in Japan since long ago. They are little known in the main society, and since Acura himself isn’t interested in his family, little is known about it. The current family head is Acura’s aunt.

I'm honestly finding that last paragraph kinda confusing (after all, how can the family have influences, as stated above, and yet very little is known about them?), but overall a very interesting article! I find it particularly intriguing that Acura's Greed Snatcher originated from Carrera. It makes it sound like Carrera and Acura actually go back pretty far.

  1. Copen is an interesting character and all but I think that he is unredeemable.
