Dengeki Nintendo Character Profiles: Gunvolt

Yesterday I reported on a cool Acura/Copen side-story that was featured in three issues of Dengeki Nintendo. Did you know that the magazine has been sharing way more exclusive Gunvolt information where that came from, though? In particular, over the last couple months they've been releasing some very detailed Gunvolt character profiles. Mind you, these aren't your average one-paragraph character bios that you'd find in you game instruction booklet. They're incredibly detailed, and even include facts about the Gunvolt characters that we previously didn't know about! Things like their backstories, and how the special abilities of the psychics work. They're very interesting read about, especially for those who are interested in statistics.
Zoram Selrof was kind enough to translate a copious amount of these profiles from Dengeki Nintendo and send 'em my way to share here. Since they're so detailed, I'll be posting one a day on this page.

With that said, here's GV's profile! Enjoy! And if you'd like to compare this translation to the original Japanese text, see here.

GV’s profile
The game’s protagonist, a 14 year-old boy. First person: “boku”. Alias “GV”.
Gunvolt is a codename, but since GV doesn’t talk about his true name, it’s unknown.

He’s an SS Rank 7th wave (Sevens) Psychic who belongs to the armed organization “Feather”, which claims to be anti-Sumeragi.

As a 7th wave (Sevens) match, he was treated like a test subject in a Sumeragi research facility ever since his childhood, but he was rescued by Asimov and that happening led to his current position.

He normally is calm and grown-up, but he hates crooked stuff, and when it comes to stuff he can’t agree with, he has a strong heart that makes him persistent.

When he doesn’t have a mission, he’s taken care of by Feather so that he can go to a school adequate to his age and have a normal life.

He’s a genius that is capable of doing anything, and, ever since he’s begun to live with Cyan, he seems to have gotten better at cooking.

His 7th wave (Sevens) is the Thunder Ability that allows him to control electrons at will, the “Azure Thunderclap (Armed Blue)”.

7th wave (Sevens)

It’s the generic name for the ESP phenomenon that has been appearing in humanity ever since some decades ago.

It mainly expresses itself in boys and girls below 10 years old. Since it’s a special ability that only those with a special 7th wave-form can use, as established by the wave research at the time, it was named 7th wave (Sevens).

There’s a theory that’s influenced a lot that says that the 7th wave, through an unknown bodily strength, controls pair annihilation in the body and changes to create a gigantic energy. Yet, since most of that expression mechanism is unknown, there are several scientists that have doubts or misgivings about whether it can be used as an energy source.

The first 7th wave Psychics were people born through a natural occurrence, but, currently, the Sumeragi Group’s research has succeeded in nurturing the 7th wave Guidance Factors. And thus it’s became possible to artificially create 7th wave Psychics.

Humans and animals that contain 7th wave potential capability are test subjects, also named matches. By transplanting the 7th wave Guidance Factors into them, the Abilities bloom, but it’s very hard to find a match for them. Gunvolt and Cyan are some of the few Sumeragi-created subsequent 7th wave Psychics.

Azure Thunderclap (Armed Blue)

The first 7th wave in the world that was discovered.

It’s the generic name for the electrical discharge ability based on the ability to finely control electrons.

Apart from its straightforward attack ability, the Azure Thunderclap (Armed Blue) can significantly increase bodily abilities by activating a Psychic’s biological current, cover the body’s surface with a thin EM field film (shield) to achieve a barrier, the “Thunder Scales”, which protects one from all types of attacks: it can also do things such as control (hack) electrical appliances from the outside, and thus they say that it hides a power that can be used in all kinds of fields.

Dartleader

Gunvolt’s exclusive EM Projection Gun, supplied by Feather.

It fires needle-shaped bullets called “Variant Lightning Rods (Darts)”.

Since it can get its power through Gunvolt, then the external power is omitted.

By changing that power into the exclusive Variant Lightning Road Cartridges, it’s capable of changing the gun’s ballistic performance.

Since its main purpose is to guide thunder, the output’s restricted, but if Gunvolt consolidates the “tail-plug” equipped on his hair into the rear connect, then it’s capable of directly firing a powerful 7th wave as well.

In truth, if the muzzle size matches, then it can also shoot out conventional bullets or pebbles, and, also, use it like a wire hanger, but since Gunvolt’s bodily abilities are very high then it’s almost never used.

* To make it easier to understand, they’re called “Lightning Rods (Darts)” in the game.

Private Armed Organization “Feather”

A resistance group whose matrix was a human rights group led by overseas 7th wave Psychics. Asimov is one of the founders.

They publicly proclaim the freedom of Psychics and carry out activities seeking to release many of the 7th wave Psychics held prisoners by Sumeragi, opposing that principle.
A lot of the Feather 7th wave Psychics who became the core of the org and carry out activities were rescued from Sumeragi in the past, and support the principles that Feather proclaim.

Apart from the fighting unit, there are also intel units or armed weapons development department composed of civilians: the org’s scale is composed by about 100 members.

And that's it for Gunvolt! Pretty interesting overall, but I gotta say, I did find it a bit strange how the profile stated, "ever since he’s (GV) begun to live with Cyan, he seems to have gotten better at cooking." In the game, GV states quite clearly that he was pretty famous for his cooking skills when he was still in Feather. :P

Oh well. Come back tomorrow for another profile!
