What's Gino's Septima?

One thing that I always found strange in Gunvolt was how Gino's septima was never addressed, even in the Japanese version of the game. To all appearances, he seems to be an adept, but he never mentions, displays, or even hints at any specific, unique ability that he has. Not even his official art, which pictures him dual-wielding two guns, gives you any real idea. Why is this? Honestly, I don't know. The game takes care to mention that Monica is one of the only humans in Feather, so you'd think that Gino has to be an adept with some special skill. And yet, even when he's talking to you in the heat of combat, telling you that he'd just dodged an enemy attack by a hair (and so forth), he only jokes around making references to various things in Japanese pop culture.

The only thing I can really narrow this lack of an explanation down to, is the possibility that Gino was primarily intended to be a comedy-relief character. After all, almost every time he's brought into a conversation, he's joking around with the other Feather members. Perhaps the devs at Inti Creates felt that putting a lot of focus on his combat abilities would take too much away from the jokester he was supposed to be. Personally, I still don't think it would have hurt Inti to address the issue at least once, but this could have been the case nonetheless.

At any rate, I really hope we get to see Gino's septima sometime down the line. Not that I don't appreciate him for what he is already, but I think showing his unique ability would make him a lot more interesting. Or hey, who knows? Maybe his joke-making talent is his septima! :P

  1. I wonder if Gino's real name is supposed to be Giovanni because he is supposed to be Italian and as far as I know Gino isn't an Italian name.
If you take the first two letters and last two letters you get his name.
